Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most difficult decisions a family can face. At Sunset In-Home Euthanasia, our goal is to provide a peaceful and compassionate in-home pet euthanasia experience for dogs and cats, allowing families to say goodbye in the comfort and privacy of their own home.
Dr. Maria Botinas provides gentle at-home euthanasia services throughout the North Tampa and Tampa Bay area, helping ensure that your pet’s final moments are calm, dignified, and surrounded by love.
Before Your Appointment
Once your in-home euthanasia appointment is scheduled, you will receive forms to complete prior to the visit. These forms allow us to gather important information about your pet and confirm your wishes for aftercare.
The consent form includes:
• Authorization for humane euthanasia
• Your preferred aftercare option (private cremation, communal cremation, or home burial where permitted)
• Confirmation that your pet has not bitten anyone within the last 10 days, as required by Florida rabies regulations
If you are unsure about aftercare options, Dr. Botinas will be happy to discuss them with you during the visit.
Until the appointment, please continue to feed your pet and give any regular medications unless otherwise directed by your veterinarian.
If your pet tends to become anxious, you may give any anti-anxiety medication previously prescribed by your veterinarian. These medications can help make the experience calmer and more comfortable.
Many families also choose to spend special time with their pet before the appointment — offering a favorite treat, sitting together outside, or simply enjoying quiet moments together at home.
When Dr. Botinas Arrives
When Dr. Botinas arrives at your home, she will take time to gently greet both you and your pet. There is no rush. This time allows your pet to remain relaxed in their familiar surroundings.
During this time, Dr. Botinas will:
• Answer any questions you may have
• Review the euthanasia process with you
• Ensure your pet is comfortable
• Confirm your aftercare wishes
• Complete any final paperwork
Families may choose where they would like the procedure to take place. Many pets are most comfortable on a favorite bed, blanket, couch, or outside in a peaceful area of the yard.
The In-Home Euthanasia Process
The in-home euthanasia process is designed to be gentle, peaceful, and pain-free.
First, your pet will receive a sedative injection that helps them relax and fall into a deep, restful sleep. This step allows your pet to become fully comfortable before the final medication is administered.
Once your pet is asleep and completely relaxed, Dr. Botinas will administer the final medication. This medication is a form of anesthetic that gently stops brain activity, followed by the lungs and heart.
Your pet will not feel pain or distress during this process.
The timing can vary depending on your pet’s health and circulation, but typically the process takes only a few minutes after the final medication is given.
Dr. Botinas will listen carefully with a stethoscope to confirm when your pet has peacefully passed.
After Your Pet Has Passed
You will be given as much time as you need to say goodbye.
If you have chosen cremation services, Dr. Botinas will respectfully transport your pet for aftercare. If you prefer that the crematorium pick up your pet directly from your home, this service is available for an additional fee.
If you choose home burial (where permitted by local regulations), families are responsible for making those arrangements.
Transportation Assistance
In some cases, we may not be able to bring a veterinary technician to assist. If your pet weighs over 40 pounds, we may kindly ask a family member to assist Dr. Botinas with transporting your pet to the vehicle following the euthanasia.
We will always handle your pet with care, dignity, and respect throughout the process.
Our Promise
At Sunset In-Home Euthanasia, we believe every pet deserves to pass with dignity, comfort, and love.
Providing compassionate in-home pet euthanasia services in Tampa Bay allows families to say goodbye in a peaceful environment where their pets feel safest.
It is truly an honor for Dr. Botinas to help families through this deeply meaningful moment.
